Modern Christmas Décor Ideas

Now that you have defined your home interior style as “modern” and invested in modern furnishings, what do you do to decorate for Christmas?  Modern Christmas décor typically focuses on simplicity, sophistication, and a touch of personality. Here are ideas to decorate for the holidays with your modern style as the backdrop.

I would recommend a monochrome holiday theme such as white or gold. Metallics are really on trend this year, both in clothing and home interiors. You can mix metallics with natural elements such as light wood or evergreen pine garlands. Make your home bar or dining table festive with a gilded deer candelabra. For more drama, add a funky garland or mistletoe on your pendant light or chandelier. For extra sparkle around the house, choose tiny twinkle lights and/or string lights with large white bulbs.

If your home is centered around neutral colors, consider going with bold with your décor – red!  After all, you already get the green from the Christmas tree! Repeating colors, textures and motifs keeps your décor under control without “going Griswold”.

Try unexpected décor like the melting disco ball or mixing in some fun with bright pink. This season designers have really gotten creative with some updates on the old “ho-hum” tree stand. I recently this amazing stand that looks like a tree root made of shiny gold. If that is too crazy, try a dramatic, oversize planter to hold your tree. Oversize ornaments in streamlined shapes for your tree and tinsel made of pearls are a couple of fun ways to introduce modern Christmas décor.
