How to prepare a guest room for Thanksgiving

Preparing your guest room for Thanksgiving guests is a thoughtful way to make them feel comfortable and welcome. Here are some tips to get your room ready:

Empty the room of clutter.  You may have used this room all year for storage or special projects, so it is time to clean out the clutter.  Then, deep clean – even under the bed and the windowsills.

Make the bed with your favorite linens or opt for a new bedding set in cozy, inviting colors and textures.  I recommend white sheets and pillowcases with holiday accent colors and pillows. Add decorative Euro shams, beautiful pillows, and a fun bolster. A cozy throw at the end of the bed is icing on the cake.

If you have a chair in the room, make sure it has a small table beside it and a floor or table lamp for good lighting.  Lighting can really make the room more inviting. If there is no room for a chair, a bed bench can work.

Provide an amenity kit as we are all forgetful! Include things that they may not have packed like cotton balls, hand lotion, toothbrush, toothpaste, disposable razors, hand soaps, shower caps. Many of the items that hotels provide for travelers are especially helpful since we can all be forgetful!

Put out a card with your home WIFI name and password so they can connect their devices without asking you a million times. If you have extra charging cords, put a few in your guest room. This has got to be one of the items guests forget the most. Plug them in next to the bedside with extension cords and make them easily accessible so guests don’t have to move the furniture.

One more thing, put a “concierge list” by their bed with suggested restaurants, coffee shops, parks, attractions, etc. in the area if they plan on venturing out on their own.

Your Thanksgiving guests will appreciate a clean comfortable, welcoming guest room.
